THE RAID:REDEMPTION – Movie Review

I badly wanted to see a movie this weekend. So narrowed down my options and finally watched “THE RAID:REDEMPTION”.
And what a great choice it was! It was bloody awesome!

The story is about a SWAT team that sets out to arrest a well-protected gangster crime lord TAMA  by infiltrating the mobster’s 30 story complex.  Our Hero RAMA, who has a pregnant wife waiting for him at home, is one of the members of the 20-member swat team led by Sergeant JAKA. They are guided by Lieutenant WAHYU who was the one who had planned the raid.
The crime lord TAMA has two right hand men , ANDI and the ruthless MAD DOG.

The special force team sets out to the complex at dawn to take the fortress by surprise. But things get out of hand when their stealth attack is shattered. What follows is mind blowing Martial arts action that will make your jaws drop down to the floor.

The Raid:Redemption is by far THE BEST martial arts action film I have ever seen. 75% of the martial arts moves that I saw today were completely new for me. Some of the fight moves were just so painful to watch, I am sure the stunt actors would have felt a lot of pain during filming.
I am not a big fan of Martial Arts movies where characters keep shouting “Aiyya! ya!  Aaiiiya!” for every move that they make. But in “The Raid: Redemption” these war cries were minimal and were not as distracting as in other movies..

The film had the right combination of high-adrenaline fight scenes with occasional breaks of silence/tense moments in the screenplay. The camera angles were fantastic and the shaky cam technique has been used only at the right places. The choice of actors were also good(i.e. there wasn’t any bad acting). Now, Coming to MAD DOG,the ruthless Fighter, I wish there were more scenes involving MAD DOG’s skills but the script doesnt allow any room for him.. But the script DID have space for showcasing ANDI’s fighting skills, but unfortunately, we see only one big fight involving him. I would say thats the only disappointment for me with  this movie.

Mad Dog’s “In your face!” move.

The music score is co-written by Mike Shinoda( of Linkin Park). It was really good. But maybe certain tracks which were repeated often could have been replaced with different tempo background scores.

Oh, I almost forgot. In other countries, the movie is screened in the original language (Indonesian) with English Subtitles. But what the geniuses in my country India did was, they dubbed the movie in English with voice actors with heavy Indian accents.. So the dialogues spoken by the characters were heavily loaded with the Indian accent( to get an idea of an Indian Accent click here).. It was very funny. Especially at one point in the movie, the cop says “Raise your Hands!”. Immediately, one guy from the audience in my movie hall shouted “Stand up on the bench!”(Which is a common punishment in Indian schools)

The movie ends with the possibility of a sequel. Overall, a must-watch movie for Hand-to-hand combat Action lovers. I repeat, this movie is a ‘Must Watch’ for action lovers!
My Rating – 9.5/10 | Must Watch
